Denver’s first ever Asian food week starts this week. Enitled Mile High Asian Food Week it runs from Feb 22-26, with 50+ restaurants participating in weekly specials, secret menus and epic collabs. Obviously you won’t be able to eat all 50 spots, or even clip half the list (unless you get paid to smoke weed and eat food all day) so what I have drummed up are some of my favorite spots that you should try to visit over the coming days. But you can check out the whole list of participating restaurants right HERE
Start with the best- Yuan Wonton is our favorite Asian eats that are participating. Penelope Wong — Chef/Owner of the Denver-famous food truck and recent nominee for JBFA Best Chef Mountain — is hitting her stride and churning out dank eats, no matter where they park the truck. Partnering with Gnochers and Rob, they have lines wrapping around buildings preparing for the best dumplings this mouth has ever tried. If you want to get in the action and try the best dumplings in town, follow their social media page. They post their pre-order links and pop up locations regularly on their Instagram.
Next spot you must try: META Asian Kitchen – Located in Avanti Food Hall sits an absolute rock star restaurant with unbelievable people. META is in their last few months in the food hall before they move into their permanent location this spring. The food is amazing. Their Uncle Tony’s XO sauce is a masterclass in spice levels and is a beauty when dressed on their noodles. Pair that with their Sechuan Mozzarella sticks and you have yourself an A plus app and entree. Check em out this week, as they’ll have special menu items & discounts going for MHAFW.
The couple behind one of the best food trucks in the city (my words and lets face it, the community), Long Nguyen & Shauna Seaman are the GOAT of dank eats. Their food truck is called Pho King Rapidos. They won Best Food Truck 2022 by Denver Westword and they haven’t taken their foot off the gas since. Known for their Pho-banh mi sandwitches that come with the dunking broth. However, they can pivot in a heartbeat and drum up great casual or upscale food for MHAFW they will have 3 pop ups going at varying locations around the metro (all are sure to sell out!) Check their social pages HERE to see where and when they will be popping up, you definitely need to try their eats if you haven’t before.
It doesn’t always have to be a savory bite, and lucky for you there are ample representatives for the sweet section of Mile High Asian Food Week. Our favorite is Get Rights Bakery. They’ll be opening their brick and mortar location soon but for the foreseeable future they will be churning out pop up and loading boxes full of sweet treats & fluffy pillows of fire. This week they will have their pop ups in Wheat Ridge (check their social media for exact locations) You can click HERE to learn more about Chef Matt and what they plan to showcase for the Asian Food Week.
One of the best vibes on Broadway is Go Fish Sushi. Their team instill the principle thought that if the staff is having a good time and the customer will too. It helps they’re serving up fresh fish and all the rolled up dankness at a friendly price. Go see them during Mile High Asian Food Week for specials that only run through this week. Pair your rolls with a nice tall beer or a few shots of Jameson (it flows like the salmon of Capistrano). You’ll find yourself ready for a night on the town! Perfect place to enjoy a little MHAFW. We always like to support great people in the community. Sherri and her team are doing exactly that. Check out their page for more details, or you can head to their website for reservations!
High on my list of must hit for Mile High Asian Food Week is the Mukja Food Truck. After the Korean-Cheesedog craze took over the internet in 2022 and the trend of long cheese pulls and decadent toppings became a thing everyone had to try. As a regular cheese puller (check Stoned Appetit for all my mozzarella reviews) this place ranks near the top of epic eats. They have the traditional snacks as well as some off the wall flavors. Their truck can be found popping up all over the metro but my personal favorite place to visit them is when they are at Lady Jane Brewery on Colfax Ave. Check their social page to see where they will be popping up this week, so you can hit em up on your commute or during a lunch break!
Last on the list, but certainly not least.. is the best Indian food in the metro area. Urban Village Grill, located in the Park Meadows Mall sits this ace in the hole. During the pandemic they moved to their newer location and haven’t stopped bringing the heat in the slightest. Voted as one of the Top 25 Restaurants in Denver, it lives up to the hype. When you think Asian Food Week you may think of the restaurants listed above but this one is not to be slept on. You can knock out your spring wardrobe shopping and go home happy. The naan may be the greatest food I’ve eaten in 2023 and the fried kale (yep, I was equally surprised) is heavenly. There’s something for everyone from safe to the adventurous eaters and it’s sure to scratch that itch for hearty eats you’ve been craving.
