Mile High Life’s Kip Wilson visited the National Western Stock Show last week; presented below is his patently rambunctious travelogue:

Over the next two weeks, thousands of people and future dinner meals (cattle) will descend upon downtown Denver for the annual  National Western Stock Show. Everything from the Professional Bull Riders tour to the Westerneers.. from “Mutton Bustin'” to judging cows… there’s events of all sorts! Don’t forget about the food scene, which is hands-down my favorite part of visiting! They’ve got the turkey legs the size of your arm, they have Denver’s Fan Favorite food truck – Simply Pizza – and of course, they have the wild ‘n’ funky corndogs stuffed with pickles.

At the Stock Show, there’s something for everyone… unless you’re a vegan, of course.

Scott DeHuff, the second-smartest human I’ve ever met, convinced me that riding the bull was a good idea – and as you can see above, that wasn’t the case. They have plenty of events for kids, including a petting zoo, agriculture education tours, so you can bring the whole family!

There’s even the Stockyard’s First Annual Beef Festival, so if you want to dodge the kids, grab a beverage and peruse the scene, this one’s for you. The Cowboy Bar’s a great place to wet your whistle, but there’s booze sold all over, so get ready to party in your ten-gallon hat!

Parking is challenging, as thousands of people will be putting on their bedazzled jeans to start the new year, so save the headache – take the shuttle from Coors Field Parking Lot B. If you’re insistent on driving, though, there are parking passes available for purchase online.

The Stock Show is held at the National Western Complex, located at 4655 Humboldt St, Denver, CO 80216.
