It’s Super Bowl weekend! And a few days before Valentine’s Day! Man, how old is that hat? All of these questions (and more!) will be answered in this week’s edition of Happy Friday. Kevin, Arthur and Jon have a loaded show for you filled with news, events, insights, good vibes and general tomfoolery that you’re going to love. Here’s what’s up:
*The Super Bowl is on everyone’s mind, so the guys give their picks (Spoiler: Here in Denver, we’re not Chiefs fans), and we discuss the various elements around the game.
*Following the lead of our fellow Mile High Life buddies Kip Wilson and Scott DeHuff (check out their writeup here), we give a shout to the Curling National Championships that have been in Denver all week. h/t Westword.
*Kev’s weirdo fascination with obscure World Records shows up again as a 9 year-old boy dribbles a basketball blindfolded for more than 80 minutes. Check that out here.
*Kevin’s NASCAR focused podcast was voted one of the nation’s 10 best podcasts about the sport. We take a victory lap! Here’s the list.
*Denver finally gets around to changing residential area speed limits. But where are all the cops? The guys discuss if this change will make any difference. Here’s the story.
*Where are the best places to get a steak in Denver? Fox 31 has a list for you, and the guys give their own recommendations.
*Jon’s alma mater Golden High School raised more $200,000 for Wish Week that benefits Make-A-Wish Foundation and helped a little girl fighting cancer celebrate her Golden birthday. That story is here. While the reporter was there, he witnessed the Hand Jive, a choregrahped routine the students do to the Depeche Mode song “Just Can’t Get Enough” which has to be seen to be believed. That story is here. A good video of the Hand Jive is here.
*Our boys The Frickashinas have an album release party coming up in April and they have a slate of amazing local bands supporting them Get tickets here!
*Valentine’s Day is next week. Let’s just say no one in this crew loves this holiday, so we share horror stories from holidays past, offer alternatives, and riff on it from a variety of angles.
*We close, as always, with cool stuff to do. Record Thieves play a show at the Marquis that looks awesome. There’s a Nerf war. Monster Jam comes to town. And of course, the big football game.
Our theme song comes from The Frickashinas
