Leg bones of a sauropod dinosaur (long necked dinosaur such as Apatosaurus or Brontosaurus that ate leaves high in trees) were discovered near the Royal Gorge as announced in a Facebook post by Canon City Colorado Government.

The fossil remains of a tibia and fibula of the massive plant eater were ‘stumbled upon’ by a hiker near the Royal Gorge who then immediately alerted the Bureau of Land Management. Later, in coordination with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Royal Gorge Museum and History Center a team was sent to carefully excavate the two enormous leg bones. The the Royal Gorge reigon has a history of dinosaur fossil discovery.

According to the Facebook post, Museum and History Center in Canon City will present the fossils in a grand reveal on January 21st at 10am. The Museum is inviting the public to come witness trained volunteers carefully preparing and preserving the fossils.
